Dr. Michael R. Moreno

Dr. Moreno holds the position of Assistant Professor and J. Mike Walker ’66 Faculty Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering with joint appointments in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Texas A&M University. In addition, Dr. Moreno is an EnMed (Engineering Medicine) Faculty Fellow and has over 20 years of experience developing medical technologies and testing systems for medical technologies, including implantable medical devices and tissue engineered regenerative therapies. Dr. Moreno is director of the Biomechanical Environments Laboratory, which operates in accordance with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Quality System Regulation (QSR). He has designed custom mechanical testing systems and protocols for FDA Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) preclinical mechanical testing and animal safety studies. Over the past five years, Dr. Moreno has been working closely with the Rwanda Centre of Excellence in Biomedical Engineering on a variety of initiatives including the implementation of digital health systems, the development of low-cost prosthetics, and the development of a biomedical engineering education program. He is an active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and currently serves as Chair of the Design, Dynamics, and Rehabilitation Committee. He is also a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society and the European Society of Biomechanics. Dr. Moreno is co-author of 21 peer-reviewed journal publications and 7 book chapters. He has been awarded 8 patents and received funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and Industry sponsors. Lastly, Dr. Moreno has developed and taught courses in Medical Device Design, Bio-Inspired Engineering Design, Biofluid Mechanics, Biosolid Mechanics, Orthopedic Biomechanics, Motion Biomechanics, Comparative Biomechanics, Healthcare Technology in the Developing World and Introduction to Engineering Innovation in Medicine.
